Q: How many visitors or hits can I get per x GB data transfer per month?
A: It's impossible for us to give you a figure. There are many factors that contribute to this. For example if your website is mainly plain text, every hit or visitor is using relatively less bandwidth than a graphics-heavy site. Using the example of 1 GB bandwidth, on a 10 KB page, that will allow 10,000 page impressions.
Q: What happens if I reach the bandwidth limit on my shared hosting account?
A: We will not automatically deactivate your website if you reach your bandwidth limit. You can use as much as you like every month. However, excess bandwidth charges of £0.05 per MB will apply. These will be charged to your account automatically.
If you are worried about exceeding your limit and are on a Linux shared account, you can set a bandwidth alert via your control panel. You will then get an email notification when you have reached the specified alert limit. We aim to introduce this functionality within the Windows control panel shortly.
Q: What restrictions do you have on your email accounts?
A: E-mail is not the most efficient method for transferring large files, so to prevent your mail delivery being hampered by large emails sent by other customers we have set a limit of 5MB on the combined total size of the email plus attachment. We do not have a specific limit on the number of emails you can send/receive, although to protect all our users from the problem of spam this is subject to our acceptable use policy. We would recommend using FTP for the transfer of larger files.
Q: How do I receive invoices from you?
A: All invoices are sent out in electronic form, so it's essential that we have an up-to-date email address for you. Hardcopies can be sent out for a small fee (usually £5 plus VAT per invoice) by contacting our Accounts department directly.
Q: How do I pay for the renewal of my Domain Name?
A: For your convenience and to ensure uninterrupted hosting of your account, if you have chosen to have payments taken from your supplied credit/debit card, we will attempt to collect the amount due from these securely-held details on the invoice date. If the transactions fails, we will endeavour to contact you via email to advise you that an alternative payment should be submitted if the domain name is to be retained.
Please note that non-payment of a domain renewal invoice within 7 days of the invoice date may cause the domain to be deactivated, affecting any hosting associated with that domain. It is your responsibility to ensure that payment has been submitted for the renewal in advance of the renewal date - if we do not receive payment we are unable to renew the domain on your behalf and it may eventually be deleted from the registry.
Q: I would like to pay by credit/debit card. What's the best way to do that?
A: You can make credit or debit card payments via NOCHEX at: https://webshop.locationlinks.co.uk
Q: I'd prefer to pay by bank transfer. What details do I need to use?
A: You can pay directly into our bank account using the following details:
Sterling Accounts:
Account Number:
Sort Code: 00-00-00
Euro Accounts:
Account Number:
Sort Code:
IBAN:
Please ensure you use your customer number and/or invoice number as a reference so that we can associate the payment with your account.
Q: I want to pay by cheque. To whom should I make it payable?
A: Provided you pay for your hosting on a yearly rather than monthly basis, you can simply send us a cheque for the full amount. Please make it payable to 'Locationlinks' and quote the invoice number on the back. Your cheque should be posted to: Hosting Accounts Department Locationlinks
Q: What security / backup measures do you take?
A: We take security very seriously and have a dedicated team of systems administrators on-site 24x7. All shared Linux servers are monitored continuously so we are able to respond immediately to any problems.
There is a multi-layer protection of your data integrity. We use high spec servers hosted in UK data centres.
Linux shared servers are backed up to tape on a regular basis to ensure that if any problems should occur the data from the server is available for restore. The archived tapes are held in a fire-proof safe outside of the data centre. Please note that these backups are designed to provide insurance against any serious server issues or similar - there is an admin charge for restoring files which have been accidentally deleted.
Windows Shared Hosting servers are built within the ATLAS architecture, which has a fully redundant storage array and is designed with automatic failover and load sharing capability to make it easy to replace or add components for additional resilience or processing power.
Q: What are the minimum contract terms for hosting accounts?
A: There is a minimum 1 year contract term. Should you wish to cancel your account after the initial 12 month period - one month cancellation notice is required. Please note certain items are non-refundable, including: domain names, secure certificates and software licensing fees. |
